welcome tyly and hayden!

As you can see, Tyly has joined us and so has Hayden -- our lone male voice in this quest. Perhaps he can offer us some interesting insight!

Power in numbers! I love it!

kicking and screaming: tyly.

Yes, that's how I'm arriving: kicking, screaming, and throwing a full out tantrum, because I love my sloth-like living.  What I don't love?  That none of my clothes fit correctly (if at all) anymore.

You ladies want to talk about weight gain?  I've got it covered.  On August 2 I weighed a toned, sexy 145.  Today I weigh a terrible, squishy ~ 160.  Yes, that is approximately 3 pounds of fat gained per month!  I totally, completely deserve it!  In fact, 3 pounds a month was probably kind of my body considering the way I was eating for a small (err, probably medium) sized army while doing no exercise.

For those who don't know, I lost 65 pounds in 2008 and became a workout machine!  I have obviously faltered, thus gaining back 15 of those pounds.  I am here to fix it.

I will start on Monday.  Yes, already procrastinating.  But James and I have a gift card to Chili's and my workout calendar starts on Monday.  I plan to enjoy Chili's tomorrow and then unleash the old me on Monday.

Monday morning is when I will get my exact measurements, and I will share them here.  I'll also get in my first workout that day as well.

Good luck to everyone!  I'm so glad we're in this together!

day #2: cassandra.

Workout Summary: 504 calories burned in 47 minutes and 30 seconds. I was on the treadmill for 25 minutes doing intervals of running and walking (90 seconds jogging, 2 minutes walking, etc.) and then on the eliptical for 16 minutes. Weird number, I know. But that's all it took to get to 500 today! Oh, and I took about a 5 minute break between activities.

How do I feel? Awesome! I'll admit though that I felt like absolute poop this morning and I did NOT want to work out. I was sore and cranky and exhausted. But for the sake of the blog, I went to the gym and I am SO GLAD I did. I felt amazing after the workout. Tired, but strong. I don't feel sore or lethargic like I did before. My legs and arms don't feel heavy like they did this morning. Perhaps I worked it out?

Notes: (1) I took a "before" picture today in my favorite jeans that I can no longer wear comfortably. Not hot, I tell you. They are so extremely tight around my butt and thighs. I do believe that's where I gain all my weight, girls. (2) Part of me doesn't want to take a rest day tomorrow. I feel like if I stop, I'll stop for good. But I really do think a down day is sort of required, don't you?

1,000 calories down -- 14,000 more to go!

before and after pictures.

I'm not suggesting that you post your "before" pictures on here -- at all. But I think it'd be smart to take one, don't you?

I don't think I could stomach a "before" photo of me in something skimpy. I'm thinking about taking one in just a regular outfit, in jeans that I normally wear, and then taking the "after" picture in the very same outfit and in the very same spot (i.e. against a wall, whatever) to see if there's any difference.

And if I'm brave enough, I'll post both after all is said and done.

P.S. We might have a new joiner soon! Super excited about all the positive feedback this blog has been receiving!

P.P.S. So I guess it's time to get to the gym...

Day 2 (Meredith)

Workout Summary:
1hr, 5 min.
504 Calories
Elliptical

Oh.My.Gosh. I am so wiped out right now. I just finished the workout and am heading for the shower. That was not easy! I watched TV ("I Now Pronounce you Chuck and Larry"-kind of dumb) and kept an eye on my watch the entire time. Once I hit 400 calories, I was so done! But, I kept on going....

I really like the Polar HRM. It tells you when you are working outside of your target heart rate. I can only imagine how many times in the past that I haven't worked out hard enough or have killed myself working out too hard. I'll have to do some research, but I know that working within your target heart rate is important.

Anyway, here's to a great Day 2! You guys can do it. :)

Day 1 (Meredith)

I'm still here, too.

I am not sure if this was cheating, but I split my workouts up: about 400 calories burned during an hour-long torture session on the elliptical (during which I watched "Things We Lost in the Fire"--really good movie!) and then I had to get ready for my doctor's appointment. While I was out, I bought the Polar F6. I came home, tried it on, and continued to workout (on the elliptical). After 15 minutes, it said I had burned 184 calories...I'm not sure if that's correct. It just doesn't sound right to me. I was working close to my maximum target heart rate most of the time, though. Does that sound right to anyone or does my watch need a readjustment?Regardless, I was beat, so I called it a day after that. Total = (questionably) 584 calories.

(Is splitting up the workouts cheating? Because two 35 minute workouts would be way more feasible for me once school starts back up.)

Needs:
  • More workout clothes/attire. If I want to ever workout outside the comfort of my own home, ratty pajamas won't cut it. hehe.
  • Also, drink more water. I downed about a gallon of tea, though I know that water is a much better choice.
  • I need to figure out my mp3 player. I bought it a year ago (I think) and downloaded a lot of songs on it. Now, it won't let me listen to the songs. (It keeps saying, "Protected." Frustrating? Very.)
Today will be better because I'll have my watch the entire time and really get a feel for it.

And yes, after my appointment, I thought, "Why am I getting back on this blasted thing?!"

"The blog." I told myself. "The blog." :D

day #1: emily

Workout summary: I'm here! And just posting right before midnight. I worked out from about 5:30-6:40 tonight. Yes, it took me an hour and ten minutes to burn 500 calories on my bike. Ummm... I haven't worked out that long... maybe ever?? But, it wasn't too bad. I watched an episode of "True Blood" on my laptop nearby while biking, and that helped a ton.

Notes: Need to get more one-hour shows to watch during workouts. And I need to up my intensity and/or speed if I want to workout in an hour or less on school days. Can't wait for my Polar watch to get here.

Worst part? Once I got to 400 calories, I wanted to run for the hills. But, like Cassandra, I kept going for the sake of the blog!

How am I feeling? Now my legs are very sore. But I did it, and that's the important thing.
