Triple Threat

Sorry, I haven't been slacking on the workouts, but I have been slacking on the posting. So here is where I catch this thing up:

Thursday: Run 30 minutes
I approximate that I went about 2.4 miles and I'm not sure the calorie burn because my Polar watch battery is sucking and I can't see the screen anymore...which totally defeats the purpose of having it. Hopefully I can find somewhere that services them.

Friday: OFF

Saturday: Run 3 miles
Well, this is where having this blog makes me feel ashamed of myself. We were out of town and there was a funeral and a birthday party and my own laziness that kept me from getting my run done. I didn't want to throw off the rest of this week either, so I totally missed it and feel really bad about it. :(

Sunday: OFF

Monday: Run 30 minutes
I ran it behind the jogging stroller carrying Kennady for the first time. It was a little more challenging, but not as bad as I had thought it would be. Does make for some killer inclines though. I think I went 1.6 miles.

Tuesday: Run 2 miles
I felt totally wiped out today. I don't know if it was the long weekend (without a run) that did it, or that I haven't eaten since breakfast or that the wind is blowing super hard and I was having to fight it. Who knows, but I got it done and that's all that really matters, right?! :) God was using his mist machine while I was out there too, so that was refreshing. :)

Wednesday: OFF

Week 1: Tuesday

Instructions: Run 2 miles.

Ran 11 minutes.
Walked from 11-13:30.
Ran 13:30-22 minutes.

Finished approximately 2 miles (plan to map it out tomorrow to be sure). :)
Burned 253 calories.

Also, I purchased a used Yakima jogging stroller from a fellow AF spouse on base today for $30 when she was initially asking $120. I have to get a tube in one of the tires fixed, but I think I still won the haggle! :)

Tomorrow is an 'off' day! Woo-hoo!

For my own good...Day 1

Well, I know nobody follows or posts here anymore, but I'm going to use this page for my own good if that's okay. I recently decided to participate in a 4 person relay team to complete a marathon together and have been handed the coveted 5 mile leg. So, my 7 week 10K (6.2 mile) training started today and I have decided to do the 10K training so that come the day of the race I am hopefully overprepared. I plan on keeping up with my schedule right here:

Per the 7 week 10K training plan found on marathonrookie.com, day 1's instructions were to:
Run 25 minutes.

This is how it went:
Street ran for 10 mins. straight: 1-10 minute mark
Brisk walk breather: 10-13:30 min. mark
Ran: 13:30-18:30 min. mark
Brisk walk: 18:30-19:30 min. mark
Ran: 19:30-24:00 min. mark
Walk: 24:00-25:00 min. mark

Upon completion, I walked an additional 13 minutes with a neighbor and Kennady. Within that collective 38 minutes, the Polar watch said I burned 530 calories.

Day 1 is complete!!! Yay for kickin' it off and I feel good about my 20.5 minutes of running!! :)

day 83: cassandra

I can't even believe I'm still posting on this blog. It's been almost a year since I started it. CRAZY!

Feeling fat and engorged, I put on my big girl panties and went for a run in the woods. I ended up getting lost - which was a blessing in disguise because it caused me to burn more calories than I normally would have. I made my way back home safely, but had to cut through some private property...they'll never know ;)

42 minutes = 409 calories

days 80, 81, and 82: cassandra

I've been working out, but not remembering to post. Oops.

Various cardio for two days = 936 calories burned.

Burn Hour at the gym this afternoon = 597 calories burned.

Wow. I'm beat!

day 79: cassandra

300ish calories burned on the arc trainer and treadmill. Woop!

day 78: cassandra

"I think I'm alone now...doesn't seem to be anyone around..."

Hello, lo, lo, lo (like my echo impression?)

I guess I'm the lonely only on this blog. Tyly, where are you?!

33 minutes of cardio = 330 calories burned

Arc trainer, eliptical, treadmill, and stair master combo. yay.

day 77: cassandra

I did some strength-training while watching Drop Dead Diva before work this evening. It's not epic, but I think it counts.

No clue how many calories I burned, but I did get my heart-rate up by doing lunges and squats. Again, not epic...but 'twas better than eating ice cream while watching Drop Dead Diva, right?

day 76: cassandra

400 calories burned during Burn Hour on the base.

Annoyed because today was official weigh-in day and I've gained a pound. UGH!

I am right back where I was when this whole thing started. Do you see how fat and happy having my husband home from Iraq causes me to be?!

Oh well. Next week is a new week. Back on the saddle, my friends.

day 75: cassandra

This was from Friday.

300 calories of cardio + 137 calories of strength training = 437 calories total

I FEEL better this week, but I have a feeling I haven't lost any weight. I wish I could get better control on my diet/calorie-counting, but that's the hardest part for me. I get so hungry!

What I need to do is go grocery shopping according to the diet plan I received at the class I attended. But...that means going to Walmart...and that's not going to happen on a weekend. Maybe tomorrow.

day 74: cassandra

Burn Hour at the base gym. A great mix of cardio and strength-training. Aaron went with me, so there was something nice to look at, too ;)

480 calories
56 minutes

day 73: cassandra

Oy...

Ugh...

Groan...

Grunt...

I did it. First day back after a while. Oh my. I am wasted!

I did my 300 calories of cardio, combining the arc trainer with the treadmill and stair master and then went into the weight room to do my "push exercises" (chest press, shoulder press, and tricep extensions). I worked HARD and boy, am I feeling it!

Total of 452 calories in about 45 minutes.

Can I go to bed now?

sharing the wealth (of knowledge).

My Brand New You class was great even though I was the only one there not in uniform (hehe).

I actually learned a LOT and he did for me everything I was hoping: Laid out a nutrition/diet plan, a workout plan, and told me about how many calories I should eat a day. And get this -- it's 1800-2000! YES! I am SO OVER starving myself! Vulture is not a good look for me after the starvation gets old.

I would be happy to offer you my wealth of knowledge via email if you're interested. Just ask! For now, here are some tidbits I learned and plan to apply soon (but not tonight because it's Bunko Night ((translation: Margaritas and cupcakes and all things gluttonous)), but soon. I promise).
  • I get to eat 1800-2000 calories a day. Have I mentioned how excited that makes me?
  • When I do cardio, I only need to burn 300 calories, not a million.
  • The Arc Trainer is actually the best machine for burning fat in the entire gym. Interestingly, this is the one machine that I've ignored for years. Stupid!
  • My new diet will consist of protein, dairy, fruit, veggies, fats, carbs (yes, carbs), and supplements/snacks in the form of protein shakes, Slim Fast, and Carnation Instant Breakfasts. Yum!
  • I just may be slightly lactose intolerant. I am going to buy dairy enzymes at Walmart sometime this weekend. Ever notice that you get bloated after you consume dairy? I do. You might want to consider these capsules. You take them WITH the dairy. I can't wait to see if this is the culprit for my ever-present pooch of bloatness.
  • And the BEST part of this new eating plan? He advised that we allot 150 calories a day to...JUNK! Yes, junk! What a sweet relief! He said if we deprive ourselves of those particular goodies, we become ravenous vultures and end up eating 10 pounds of chocolate cake in one sitting. Not cute. He said his "junk" each day is a can of Dr Pepper. I am so loving this new concept.
I plan on kick-starting this on Monday and/or Tuesday. I always feel super motivation whileThe Biggest Loser is on, don't you? I feel like if they can do it, I can do it.

So here we go!

brand new you: cassandra

I signed up for the Brand New You class at the base fitness center. It will be on Friday morning. It's a class that teaches us about proper nutrition and fitness.

I feel like I need some guidance, ya know? I need a Bob or a Jillian.

I am hoping this class will actually be of some benefit. Ideally, I would like to get a personal trainer and a nutritionist who can TELL ME EXACTLY WHAT I NEED TO DO in order to get the results I want. I am so tired of wasting time on things that don't work, ya know?

I am a bit apprehensive about Friday, though. I know this is going to sound stupid, but...what if people are rude to me because I clearly do not need to lose THAT much weight? I'm afraid of being judged or asked, "Why are you here??!" I think that will shoot down my motivation. Ugh. I hope I'm the only student there. Haha!

So wish me luck. I hope this is a step in the right direction.

day 72: cassandra

32 minutes
347 calories

I squeezed in a run this afternoon before work. It started out in my neighborhood and then veered into the woods because pavement is boring. Turns out, there was a nice trail cut out in the woods and I took it for about 15 minutes and then turned around to reunite with civilization. It was kind of scary, but definitely something new! I enjoyed it!

day 71: cassandra

I found my iPod and heart-rate monitor! It occurred to me at 6am this morning that they were both in Aaron's gym bag from the last time he and I worked out together. And I was right!

I went to Cardio Dance Party this afternoon and burned 478 calories. Woohoo!

Tomorrow is my first weigh-in in two months. I am NOT looking forward to it.

day 70: cassandra

I went to the gym today for Cardio Dance Party. It was fun! I still haven't found my heart-rate monitor, so no clue how many calories I burned. I did sweat a whole lot, though.

Oh, and I am super sore from Pilates yesterday! I didn't think I did much during that class, but apparently my muscles think otherwise.

day 69: stop the presses!

I actually went to the gym today. I know. Can you believe it? I not only fell of the wagon in these last 2-3 months. I hit a pothole, flew off the wagon, and landed in a cactus patch.

But I'm back! (At least for today).

I went to a Pilates class. It kicked my butt! My body feels like a noodle and I'm actually tired even though I didn't sweat a drop. Weird.

P.S. I couldn't find my heart-rate monitor strap this morning...if that's any indication as to how long it's been since I used that thing. It's gotta be in this house somewhere...

finally!

Finally I have a workout post!

I have been a big time slacker recently, but hopefully this morning will jump start me.

I ran my 5th 5K race.  It wasn't my best time, but it wasn't my worst time.  I'll take it!  Especially since I've been lazy and the course was sooo dang hilly!  Ugh.  But I got up and did it!  That's something.

I'm on my post-race high right now, so I'm super motivated to get back into working out all the time.  I hope this motivation lasts until tomorrow morning!

I would like to actually, you know, train for a race before running it!  It seems like I always pick the few weeks before a race to be lazy.  It makes no sense!

The next one is August 1st (the day before I turn the big 2-7), and I'm hoping to have a better time by then.

Fresh Air Fund Racers

Here's an opportunity to help a great cause!

The Fresh Air Fund is still looking for runners and sponsors to join our Fresh Air Fund-Racers team for the NYC Half-Marathon on August 16th. This is a great way to participate in NYC's premier summer road race while helping Fresh Air Fund children.

http://freshair.org/racers

Last summer's NYC Half-Marathon was a huge success and the Fresh Air Fund-Racers raised more than $125,000. We are also still in need of Friendly Town hosts for next month. Host families open their hearts and home to a NYC child who would not otherwise have the opportunity to escape the hot, crowded city streets.
